Skin Donations at Sacramento Plastic Surgery Practice Help Cancer Survivors, Burn Victims

Chrysalis Cosmetics Sacramento CA Plastic Surgery

Sacramento, CA (Vocus/PRWEB) March 29, 2011

At his Sacramento plastic surgery practice, Chrysalis Cosmetics, Charles Perry, MD is teaming up with his current patients and the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation (MTF) to provide life-changing skin and tissue donations through the Living Skin Donation program. MTF is the largest tissue bank in the nation and is dedicated to connecting donors with surgeons such as Dr. Perry to provide living skin to a varied spectrum of patients in need, ranging from breast cancer survivors to burn and trauma victims. “We at Chrysalis Cosmetics feel it is very important to be involved in this donation process for both parties involved.”

Following an in-depth screening process to ensure each patient is well suited to donate tissue, Dr. Perry says he and his specially-trained team harvest and prepare the skin, then send it to the MTF collection facility. In the past, he says the practice donated skin to other tissue banks or researchers for laser studies, but settled on MTF as the primary receiver of their patients’ tissue donations because the feedback the organization provides patients is exceptional.

Chrysalis Cosmetics patients initially urged Dr. Perry to get involved with the Living Skin Donation program because they were upset the tissue was discarded following their tummy tuck or post-bariatric procedure. “The donation process is often very fulfilling for both parties. The person donating feels as though they have done something good with their unneeded skin, and often comments that it feels like the right thing to do as they begin their new life.”

About MTF

Over 900,000 Americans receive tissue transplants each year to replace bone, tendons and ligaments lost to a number of causes, including cancer, severe trauma, and degenerative diseases. The Musculoskeletal Transplantation Foundation is the nation’s largest tissue bank committed to providing quality tissue through excellence in education, research, recovery and care for all parties involved. As a non-profit organization, MTF is dedicated to connecting donors with surgeons and transplant recipients. Since its inception in 1987, MTF has distributed more than 3 million grafts for transplantation from more than 100,000 donors.

About Dr. Perry

Charles Perry, MD earned his medical degree from the University of Washington. He then completed his general surgery residency at the University of Arizona, and his plastic surgery residency at the University of Massachusetts. Dr. Perry is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the California Medical Association. He has participated in cleft lip and palate reconstruction missions in Ecuador, a medical outreach program in the X’axlip Indian Reservation, and continues to volunteer with the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation.

Is there any way to have an almost-normal looking stomach again after pregnancy?

Question by J&S V: Is there any way to have an almost-normal looking stomach again after pregnancy?
as far as the sagging and bulging lower belly goes?
Here’s the deal.I’m almost overweight after having my baby,
but I plan to lose lots of weight. So I figure since my stomach is already saggy right now, it will look even worse then. But if I DON’T lose all the weight, then the entire rest of my body is doomed to look bad.
So the only problem I have is my tummy.
I know that most of you will reply “tummy-tuck” and believe me, I am not against surgery. If I had the money, I would get one.
But as I do not, I need alternatives and advice.
I am 18, already three months not-pregnant, I did get pretty bad stretch marks (that may make a difference as far as my skin being even looser) and I plan on doing lots of stomach exercises as soon as I get all the weight off through cardio and diet.
What do you think my results will be?

Working out definately helps toning and tightening you’re skin. There will probably be pudge there when you get down to the weight you want, but it doesnt hurt to try!

Also, for stretch marks I highly reccommend this product, use it every day for a good while and I swear you will see a difference (I had stretch marks on my arms, and after using it you cant even see them anymore!):

All About Your Tummy Tuck Recovery

All About Your Tummy Tuck Recovery

Upon waking from tummy tuck surgery, it is normal to feel discomfort in your abdominal area. Your abdomen may be quite swollen and throbbing. It is important to take your pain medication on time to avoid unbearable pain. Recovering from tummy tuck surgery takes time and when that time eventually comes, you will feel incredible.

The skin on your abdomen may also become numb. Don’t let this frighten you because it is perfectly normal since the procedure loosens the skin from its previous attachments and pulled into it’s new place. Some nerves may also be cut. Your normal feeling usually comes back over the course of several months but is also possible for the complete sensation to never return.

Having a high temperature after surgery could indicate an infection so it is very important to take your temperature regularly. Never forget to take your antibiotics on time and remember to finish the entire prescription, even if you are feeling better. If you suddenly stop taking your prescription, it may result in a drug-resistant infection. It is also recommended that you avoid taking all other prescriptions as it can sometimes interfere with your post operative medications. Avoid any type of major movement for at least one week or longer if possible. You will then be scheduled to see your surgeon for a follow up visit about 3-4 days after your tummy tuck surgery. They will check your drains and examine your incision to get a general idea of how fast your body is recovering.

Just as in any caesarian delivery, your doctor may advise you to wear a support garment around your abdomen. Abdominal support binders come in several different sizes but the wider binders are recommended for a more secure support. Try getting the binders on as smooth as possible to avoid pinching from the wrinkles. In regards to bathing, It is up to your surgeon when the best time will be because bathing too soon can cause of infection! You may do a sponge bath in the meantime. You will probably be able to take shower within 2-3 days following the your surgery but swimming is forbidden until your incision is completely healed.

A bit of walking during the first week following tummy tuck surgery and increased walking as the week passes, is highly recommended as it will help to prevent blood clot formation and eases swelling. You may also feel bloated and experience intestinal cramps as well. Drinking plenty of water is a big help in maintaining regular digestive circulation which helps flush out residual medications. Some surgeons also suggest a mild stool softener or eating vegetables and fruits that are rich in fibers.

Healing process?

Question by littletease3: Healing process?
Please only answer if you PERSONALLY have experienced this….. After having a “Tummy Tuck” performed, how long did it take for you to heal? How long did it take for the swelling to go down? Did your feet and legs swell? Did you have a poor appetite? What side effects did you experience? If you had to do it all over again, would you??
My grandmother had the procedure done a week ago. Her incision line is 34 1/4 inches across her midsection. Mind you, this was NOT an elective procedure like most people have. This was a procedure to help reduce the risk of having an abcess return, along with the repair of a hernia.
AGAIN, please answer if you have been through the experience. Personal input would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Tummy tuck surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her breast reduction, tummy tuck and facelift surgery in India by the company called Forerunners Healthcare .The Price for the surgery she paid in India was very less. She paid 30% of the cost she was quoted in America.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. They arrange cosmetic and plastic surgery for foreigners in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as the breast reduction, tummy tuck, facelift and other cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

Liposuction Recovery ? Will There Be A Liposuction Scar?

Liposuction Recovery ? Will There Be A Liposuction Scar?

One of the major concerns that a patient may experience regarding liposuction procedures is not the actual cosmetic surgery costs – but whether or not there will be a liposuction scar after the procedure. This is especially true with abdominoplasty, in which a tummy tuck scar may limit swimsuit options, etc.

All conventional liposuction procedures involve making a surgical incision, through which a tube (cannula) is inserted and the excess fat is removed by a back and forth motion of that cannula. This, of course, will result in the production of a liposuction scar. The severity of that tummy tuck scar will depend on several factors.

The first factor is the skill of the cosmetic surgeon. The more skilled the surgeon the less chance of a severe liposuction scar. The proper positioning of the cannula in such a strategic manner as to reduce the chance of a large tummy tuck scar depends on the experience of the surgeon performing the procedure.

Liposuction plastic surgery scars are normal, since it’s a relatively invasive procedure. However, a liposuction scar can be kept to a minimum by following a few basic steps. First of all, always follow the pre and post-operative instructions given by your surgeon. Some of those instructions are designed to reduce scarring.

One of the methods that a cosmetic surgeon might use to reduce a possible severe liposuction scar is the use of post-operative salves and ointments. A tummy tuck scar will eventually diminish in size as the swelling abates.

Immediately after surgery, the liposuction scar will appear red and irritated. But in a few weeks, that tummy tuck scar will be much less noticeable. You just have to wait out that initial period of pronounced scarring. The overall results of your liposuction should be satisfactory.
